Valentines Day Ideas

Valentines Day is celebrated world wide in memory of Saint Valentine, who is considered the martyr of love. Commemorating February 14th is a tribute towards this saint for sacrificing his life in the effort of uniting lovers and going against the stringent rules of the king. Since then, lovers all over the globe try to make this day as unique and special as possible for their beloveds and make them feel treasured.

Ideas to celebrate Valentine's Day are aplenty and individuals have a wide range of choices. Lovers can plan the traditional themes of a romantic day out by the lake or sophisticated dinners or moonlit walks. They can also gather all their creative energies to spark the day with activities and gifts, which appeal and please their partners. When conjuring Valentine's Day ideas, three aspects essentially form a huge part, namely the food, the destination and last but not the least gifts. Food can be prepared keeping in mind the favorite dishes of the beloved.

The destination, be it a restaurant, park or home, should have a subtle, romantic and warm ambience. Lastly, the expectations of gifts are always apparent and they can range from hand-made items to readymade cards, flowers, chocolates, candies, clothing, accessories, and many more options.

Valentines Day ideas can also consist of couples deciding to be engaged and married. Since February 14th is considered the day for love, couples find it a romantic and ideal day to tie the knot. Getting married on Valentines Day though, becomes a bit expensive, but the results and treatment is worth the expense. Caterers, wedding management, and all the departments related to arranging the wedding offer discounts and extra special services to couples that get married on Valentines Day.

For unique Valentines Day ideas, lovers can log on to various websites and borrow ideas as well incase they run out of original ones. These websites apart from offering ideas also assist in helping individuals in implementing them for minimal charges.

Where Valentine Gifts Came From

Where exactly did Valentine's Day originate? Its roots would actually take us back to old times of the Roman period when King Claudius was the ruler. The day has been held as kind of like a festival to honor and celebrate the queen of the Roman gods.
She was then recognized as the sole goddess of matrimony and the female sex. On the following day, the Lupercalia Feasts were celebrated. As the eve of this festival took place, the only people who were allowed to be together were the youth, as they were kept separated the rest of the time. Basically, this was one of the theories of the origins of Valentine's Day.
Also a theory of the history of Valentine's Day, the story of the sacrifices that were made by Valentine, a Christian martyr, was truly touching. It was said that back then, the Roman emperor required a large number of soldiers to form a huge army. However, he was unable to do so because there were a lot of people who did not want to be away from their families to go to war. This became a big problem for the emperor so he ordered people to stop getting married. Of course, not all the people wanted to follow, especially those who really wanted to get married. So Valentine, who was a priest back then, conducted secret marriages. This became the foundation of St. Valentine's Day that is now celebrated everywhere.
Regardless where Valentine's Day originated from, it is truly a day when we can celebrate the love we have and share with our loved ones. We should all see it as a great opportunity to give gifts and presents that would express our love and appreciation to those who are dear to our hearts.

Valentines Day Stuff Up

Oh my God, what a stuff up. It was Valentines Day in 2006 and I had searched everywhere for the best Valentines Day gift possible for my wife. I woke up in the morning very excited about the gift I had bought for her and the thought of a romantic day ahead. Boy was I wrong!
After a relaxing sleep in, I woke up and quietly sprinkled some rose petals on the bed that I had collected the day before. When my wife awoke, we embraced, had a long cuddle and then sat up in bed. She admired the effort I had gone to with the rose petals and reached down the side of the bed to get the present she had bought for me.

As I opened this large long box I was very surprised to receive a new gold putter that I had wanted for many months. It was worth a couple of hundred dollars and I couldn't wait to use it.
I reached down the side of the bed and lifted my wife's present onto the bed. She looked very excited and could not wait to open her Valentines gift.

As she opened the paper her face started to drop and I could tell by her expression that she was either confused or not impressed. She said what is it? I said a great new coffee machine. She said - "But I don't drink coffee". I said "I do, and everytime we have guests around you complain that you have to make coffee and make comments like - I wish we had a coffee machine!"
This was the wrong rationale and boy did she let fly.

My Valentines Day did get better. I think the $40 bunch of roses that were delivered a couple of hours later probably helped.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Men

Valentine's gifts for men are easier to pick out than most women predict they would be. If you're depressed about the pithy suggestions that keep coming up like socks, a tie, or toiletry kit, relax! This article will help you find the choicest Valentine’s gifts for him.
First of all, let it be said, from a guy's perspective, that there are many important ways to make a guy feel better outside of just plopping gifts in front of him. Words of affirmation, admiration, and compliments can boost a guy's self-esteem. Make sure your attitude and message is authentic. Set aside everything else to give him some personal, caring attention. Guys, not just girls, need to feel emotionally secure. Another thing you can do is serve him. Acts of service are meaningful to men and women alike. Brew him a cup of special hot chocolate you bought for the occasion and make his favorite meal. Bring him a delicious breakfast in bed. Erotic touch, caresses, hugs, kisses, massages, and any kind of affection are especially appreciated by some men. It's all about finding the right balance of the aforementioned ideas not only on Valentine's Day, but as a necessary part of the daily relationship. Find out what works for him. Simply give them more abundantly, genuinely, and gracefully as Valentine's Day gifts.
Some of the most unique Valentine's day gifts for him are the ones that cost a little. A high-quality watch, universal remote, Apple iPod, iTunes gift certificate, XM or Sirius radio subscription, power tools, magazine subscriptions, DVDs, grooming products, cologne, tickets to his favorite sports event, footwear, a ring, silk boxers, a picnic basket, personally engraved jewelry, a robe with his initials, a mouse pad with a customized message, or a new puppy dog or kitty cat.
Sometimes the best Valentine's Day gifts are the ones he'll remember for the rest of the life. In this case, avoid items that can be used up, spent, or forgotten. A watch or ring engraved with his initials or a message, especially if it's a style he truly wants, will be with him for a longer period of time. It's rare to forget the source of something. So, for instance, if he really gets a lot of enjoyment out of the best dust buster on the market, he'll remember that it was your ingenuity that got it for him. Hey, some guys are clean freaks. In any case, the Valentine’s gifts for him should create bonding memories for you both.

Valentines Gift Ideas

Valentine's Day is going to be here before you know it, so here are a few gift giving ideas to help you in the search for the perfect gift for that special someone.
Flowers are a very traditional, but always appreciated gift. Pictures of the two of you is always appreciated, but why not take it one step further by putting that same picture into a personalized picture frame. This gift shows how thoughtful you are and can be proudly displayed for all to see. Maybe you thought about giving a favorite poem to that special someone? Try putting that same poem into a personalized frame and presto your poem looks even more beautiful.

Maybe you've just started a new relationship and don't want things to go to fast just yet. If so, find out what their likes are and start shopping from there. Maybe they are a music lover. A personalized iPod case or blackberry case shows how thoughtful you are without sending to serious of a message. Of course everybody likes chocolate, so a box of chocolates or even a chocolate gift basket makes a yummy treat for all to enjoy.

The same is true for those busy professionals who don't have a lot of time on their hands. Try giving your Valentine something they could really use, like maybe a personalized leather briefcase or laptop case. Not only can they use the gift to help with their busy schedule, but every time they look at their case they'll be reminded of you. Another idea is a personalized travel bag made especially for them. The best thing about these gifts is even if you two are traveling and can't be together for the day, they'll look at your present and smile knowing you're thinking about them too.

After a nice candlelit dinner with soft romantic music playing in the back round why not add some more sizzle to the evening? Try these gifts on for size and see what happens ;-) A board game or card game designed specifically for lovers not only makes the evening very interesting, but also helps the two of you come closer together. Who knows what you may discover that you never knew, that's what makes these games so fun.

The main theme behind all these gifts is the personalization. It takes an ordinary gift and turns it into a gift made specifically for that person, guaranteeing no two are ever the same. In my humble experience, personalized gifts show how much though was put into each gift and the warm feelings will come right back to you.

Valentines Day is the Perfect Time to Show Your Creativity with Holiday Crafts

Traditionally, children in school have been engaging in crafts for Valentines Day for years, but adults tend to overlook how special this means of celebrating the romantic holiday can be. Sometimes, it's the thought that counts, and spending quality time with crafts will outshine any amount of money you can spend on extravagant gifts.

On Valentines Day, one craft that could perhaps win the heart of the love of your life is a simple, hand-crafted card. Don't stop with a simple, single fold "I love you" card; make sure that you include heartfelt emotions in your card, expressing yourself with honesty and truth so that your loved one really gets the point of how you feel about him or her. It can easily be more personal than any purchased card, and you can include a picture of the two of you that makes it even more intimate.

Another Valentines Day craft that shouldn't be overlooked as an alternative to a purchase is a scrapbook of memories of the life between the two of you. It is extremely emotional to look back at how far you've come together, and it is especially appreciated when you also leave room for future memories.

Valentines Day has become very commercialized, but sometimes taking it back to the basics and craft your gifts for your significant others, giving them gifts from the heart instead of from the shelf. This can be the most intimate way to express creativity and love in a single piece of work.

Valentine's Day - Unique and Creative Gift Ideas

Valentine's Day gift ideas don't have to be expensive, since there are many unique and creative gift ideas for anyone's budget. It's very important to give serious thought to what you know your special someone likes and enjoys when choosing a Valentine's Day gift, and what they do not like.
What type of gift you give also depends on the level of the relationship you're in, such as dating and not yet serious, serious and planning to become engaged, or already married. Giving a very personal gift, such as lingerie or sexy undergarments, to someone you've only recently begun dating is not considered by many to be a wise choice.

If you're in a serious relationship or are married, and you want to give the gift of lingerie, then be sure to keep in mind that the lingerie should also be comfortable for the wearer. I don't know of anyone who would be happy to receive and wear lingerie that is uncomfortable and irritating to the skin, so be very careful in your choice if you go that route.

Valentine's Day is one of my all-time favorite holidays. I'm a sappy romantic fool from head to toe, and I thoroughly enjoy planning early, choosing unique and creative gift ideas to show my husband how much he means to me. You won't ever find me wandering the store aisles on February 14, rushing around at the last minute trying to find "something nice" to bring home to my man, because I've prepared well in advance and I'm ready-to-roll several weeks before the day arrives.

One year for Valentine's Day, I sent my husband on a mini treasure hunt (but you don't have to be married to do this). I had arranged for a nice lunch to be delivered to his office, since he's usually tied up in meetings and wouldn't have time to go out for lunch. With the lunch was a note saying that at 5 p.m. he had to leave work and "immediately become my love slave", and that he must do whatever I asked the remainder of the evening without question. (He tried several times to call me at my office to find out what was going on, but I made sure that I was otherwise indisposed).

The note also asked him to go to the address shown on the card after work, and pick up what was being held for him in his name (a new sport jacket and tie). Once there, he was given the items and told to put them on, along with another personally handwritten card asking him to meet me at the address shown on that card, where he met up with me at a classy, fine-dining restaurant with an incredible view overlooking a large body of water.

It's usually only on very special occasions, such as our anniversary, that we get all gussied up and go out on the town, so that Valentine's Day was not only fun but very romantic. If you ever decide to do something similar, a treasure hunt of your own, remember to keep the different destinations to a minimum because too many can become frustrating, ultimately bringing results completely opposite of what is intended.

Fortunately for me, my husband knows and understands how much I enjoy everything about romance, and he's very good at coming up with unique and creative gift ideas for me too. One year he surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers that arrived at my office, with a little note saying he loved me and asking that I pick up a bottle of wine on my way home. Once I arrived home, I walked in to find a candle-lit dinner waiting for me, soft romantic music playing in the background, followed by his giving me a beautifully engraved locket with a picture of my children inside. He had also purchased rose petals from the florist, and a gorgeous set of high-quality sheets, and decorated our bed and bedroom with rose petals and candles.

If your special someone is an avid book reader, you might consider purchasing the latest book by their favorite author, or one they have been meaning to buy for themselves. Consider searching online to see if there is an upcoming concert or sports event, for which you could buy tickets in advance and enjoy the event together. Think about what your significant other likes and enjoys, and let that guide you in determining what would be the unique and creative gift idea for your someone special. Does your guy or gal enjoy chocolates? Don't just grab the stuff in the candy aisle at the store, but carefully select something delectable from a famous chocolatier.

Valentine's Day can be a fun and exciting holiday, made even more special by thoughtful early planning. Don't wait until the last minute to call for dinner reservations at a romantic restaurant, only to find they're already filled to their limit. Calling well in advance of Valentine's Day just might also provide you better choices of being seated in a more private and secluded section, away and out of ear-shot of other diners.

Valentines Day Gift Baskets - 3 Great Gift Ideas for Guys

When it comes to Valentines Day gift baskets, girls are obiviously much easier to buy for. Most of us love chocolate, flowers and maybe even a nice bottle of wine. Gift ideas for guys are sometimes a bit more tricky. Here's 3 great gift ideas for guys that are sure to please.

1. Gourmet Chocolate Gift Baskets

Ok, lets be serious. When he buys you a Valentines Day gift basket, there's usually some yummy chocolate inside. And if he's anything like my guy, he goes to town on it. So why not get him his own darn chocolate...maybe then he'll leave your's alone!
A great gift idea for guys, therefore, includes chocolate. But you can make it less feminine. Instead of the ol' heart shaped box with strange nougat fillings, spring for some mouth-watering gourmet chocolate - like Ghirardelli, or Godiva. Opt for a Valentines Day gift basket with a more manly look and feel to it - like one with a leather box. Then be nice to him, and hope he shares his gourmet goodies with you!

2. Wine Related Gifts

Gifts for wine lovers are easy to come by if you know where to look. You can choose gifts for red wine lovers or gift baskets for white wine lovers. Would he prefer california wine gifts or does he have more international taste buds? Don't forget, a nice bottle of champagne is always and option, and Dom Perignon takes the cake! Wine is such a wonderful gift because you'll no doubt share it together. Great memories often begin with a fine wine.

3. Novelty Gift Baskets

Novelty gift baskets are the gift for the guy who has everything. Choose a theme near and dear to his heart, like golf, fishing, the NFL, or beer. Today you can even create your own gift basket quite easily on many websites, allowing you to pick and choose only his favorites. Take it a step further and personalize Valentines Day gift baskets with lingerie or a note with a secret rendezvous..

Valentine's Day Ideas That Won't Leave Your Wallet Feeling Empty

Valentine's day is right around the corner and for many that means nothing but a stress filled, emotion forced, expensive nightmare of a day. It seems all to often that women expect to much and men try to little. What is it about this one day that drives even the sanest souls to emotional madness? Valentines day instills in the brain visions of movie romance and hallmark heart warming moments that are often impossible to obtain. So how do you make the most out of Valentines Day? While dollar signs can lead the way to terrific gifts that put a smile on your honey's face you don't have to spend a fortune to appeal to her fantasy. Here are some terrific alternatives for those who want to woo their lover without emptying their wallet.

A Spa Day At Home:

A day at the spa can be a sad day for your wallet. Buying your princess a full day of pampering can cost you well over a hundred dollars, but that doesn't mean you can't give her the day she deserves. Turn your place into a spa this valentines. Give her the works from head to toe. Something as simple as a body massage a foot soak and her favorite movie (even if it is a all out chick flick) can give her one of the best valentines days she's has without burning a loveless hole in your wallet.
What You Need
Massage Oils in Relaxing Scents (Lavender is Usually a Good Choice)
Bath Robe and Pajama Pants for Her
A "Chick" Flick
A Decadent Snack like Chocolate Covered Strawberry's or her favorite Ice cream.

Make Her a Meal

It's always been said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but thats true for woman to. Don't let your lady fool you, when it comes to food, women love to eat just as much as men do. Making her a meal at home can not only save you a few bucks, but it also will mean a lot more to her than a meal at her favorite restaurant. Not the best in the kitchen? Stick to something simple and use a cook book.

Make Candles Together:

Nothing says romance quite like candle light so what better way to share your love with your lady than to have an arts and crafts night. Visit your local craft store and find candle making kits. They are generally inexpensive and come in a variety of colors and themes to choose one. Since it is Valentines day you may want to stick with a bit of tradition and go for wax in red hues. If you want to be really sentimental keep the candle around and burn it on your next anniversary as a simple to your passion and love.

Go On a Picnic:

If your lucky enough to live in the warmer parts of the world consider taking her on a picnic. Picnics are something that are often over looked but can be a terrific way to spend a charming day or night together. Nothing says I love you like a bottle of wine under a starry sky. Sounds like a terrific idea but what if it's snowing outside you ask? Bring the picnic inside of course! There is something romantic about picnics even if they are inside. Dining a little differently will show you put some thought into this very special day.

Valentine's Day Ideas for Singles

Maybe your significant other is overseas in the military. Maybe you have suffered a recent divorce. Whatever the reason, you may find yourself alone this Valentine’s Day. Does this mean you should sit at home feeling sorry for yourself? I think not. Here are some ideas for people who find themselves alone this year.

1. Take yourself out.

Who says you have to have a member of the opposite sex take you out? I do not see anything wrong with getting all dressed up to go out with the person you should have the most fun with, you. So go put on your best dress or suit and have a night on the town by yourself. At least you won’t spend the whole night worrying about whether or not you have salad in your teeth.

2. Go out with your other single friends.

I’m sure that you have some other friends that are in the same predicament you are in. Why not call up one of your friends that you haven’t seen in a while and go out with him or her. I am sure that your friend will appreciate you thinking about him or her.

3. Volunteer at a non-profit.

Sometimes the best way to stop feeling sorry for yourself is to help someone less fortunate. I am sure that there are plenty of nonprofits in your area that would LOVE to have you volunteer for the day. Just type in non-profit organization or volunteer opportunity in your search engine to find an opportunity near you.

4. Offer to baby-sit.

I can’t think of a better way to help out a young family with kids than to offer to baby-sit for them so they can enjoy their night out. I mean you weren’t going to do anything else besides sit at home and wallow in your self-pity, anyway. This way they can owe you one.

5. Send yourself flowers and candy.

Just go to one of the online florists and order a bouquet of flowers and candy sent to yourself. If you could have them sent to your office at work that would be even better. You could even have the card addressed, “From Your Secret Admirer.” You could act all surprised and wonder who in the world could have done such a nice thing.

6. Adopt a soldier and send him/her a Valentine’s Day card.

There are several sites online that have resources for you to help American soldiers. http://www.noanie.com is an example of one of these types of sites. I am not affiliated with this website at all, I just wanted to list it here so you could find an address to send your valentine’s day cards to.

Being alone at Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the end of the world. If you’re creative, you can find ways to make this day a bearable, maybe even a memorable experience.
